Hey Friends,
In this week’s episode of my snippets, I want to focus on how we should use the younger ones to change the narratives.
According to Margret Mead, “children should be taught how to think, not what to think”.
So, last week, I was invited by the Zaria Merit School to deliver a career talk on why students should study engineering. As usual, I had a different perspective on career choice because of the post-pandemic global transformation. I emphasized self-awareness and the need for developing skills. They may be in the same class, but they are not equal.
I taught them how to be purposeful in their choice of courses and cautioned them to avoid:
1. Follow-follow syndrome
2. Daddy/Mommy factor
3. Sweet name
4. My Neighbor's son is rich factor
In my opinion, a child’s mind is like a blank paper where experiences, learning, and knowledge are being written to be nurtured. This blank paper should not be designed to make that person behave like a machine that obeys what it is being commanded to, how to do? What not to do? What to think? What not to think? Instead, they should be guided by the mechanism which enhances “how to think”.
Quote of the week:
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them - Albert Einstein
Update on 100days Video Challenge
Some unexpected brand engagements came up within the week and I had to pause the 100 days challenge. I want to sincerely apologize for that but I will resume ASAP.
Participated in the Toastmasters meeting:
As the president of Kinta Valley Toastmasters Club, last week I participated in the meeting held on 17th November 2022 and I gave the opening remark about the theme of the meeting: Make hay while the sun shines.
I have learned a lot through the meeting as I was able to connect with interesting people from different backgrounds and nationalities. I equally served as an evaluator to Sandeep, a very newcomer to Toastmasters that is exceptionally trying and performing wonders by giving speeches and taking up roles.
The meeting was made wonderful with the presence of our club founder Distinguished Toastmaster KT Pillai and our Division H Director R. Menon.
Public Speaking Bootcamp
I equally participated and delivered evaluations to speakers at the Zaria Tech and Business Community Bootcamp which took place at Mediahooch Spaces. The most amazing part of the Bootcamp is the transformation of the participants.
In conclusion, let’s change the narratives by changing the ideology of our kids to career choices. Let them understand who they are and what specific potential they have. Their career choice should be purposeful and should be in areas that can directly or indirectly add value to their individual talent and potential.
Have a lovely week ahead.
